SPORTS BUSINESS INSTITUTE & ANCILLARY CENTER SUMMARY STATEMENT
- The sports business industry is a growing and thriving 700B+ industry and while sports is global and ubiquitous, the sports business epicenter, the “sports BUSINESS capital of the world” is in New York. Along with the numerous organizations in New York--league offices, players associations, marketing arms for NASCAR, USOC and others, there are numerous sports businesses headquartered, such as Octagon Sports Marketing, Team Epic, YES Network, and NBC Universal Sports to name a few. Numerous sports marketing agencies and many sports executives live in the area, making access easier.
- The existing Sports Business Institute (SBI) is looking for specific and well-positioned academic partners with the intent of supplementing the tremendous academic and athletic success currently taking place on campus. This multi-faceted entity looks to provide in-depth global analysis of the industry along with developing future industry leaders through connections, research and strategic partnerships. SBI encompasses various entities, including, (but not limited to) a speakers bureau, creation of various centers (with input and buy in from the university), events and educational opportunities that enhance the established programs and organizations at the college. In addition, there are growth areas on the academic side (integrating curriculum, online/hybrid, corporate sponsorships, naming opportunities and rights, etc.) which SBI and its partner members are qualified as a consultancy.
- Understanding and furthering the sports business industry primarily through applied research, high-level industry connectivity, specific student-led assignments and events creates a value-add proposition that would enhance almost every area of ABC College.
- SBI serves as an incubator utilizing current curriculum and assets to integrate the sports business community while raising awareness of programs and the institution by forming:
A Top Shelf C-Level (CEO, COO, CMO, etc.) Speakers Bureau Blue Ribbon Panels/Events
Sports Business “Think Tank” & Research Center (concussion, e-sports, gambling for example)
Formation of Various (and potentially named) Centers such as media, ethics, (sportsmanship) analytics, etc.
Our senior and key connections to the sports industry (advisory board) will serve as assets for events, policies and promotion, internships and job opportunities. International connections exist for the institute to advance beyond the campus of ABC College and to implement any devised program or center.
- SBI will produce content (webinars, podcasts etc.) for consumption for industry, students, programs, teams, leagues and potentially even corporate sponsors. It can serve as an incubator for startups. Natural partnerships already exist and naming opportunities are available for the overall institute, chairs and centers developed by the institute. Opportunities in sports exist for grants, scholarships and business training, locally and globally.

- Will help the college in its brand building and in marketing with sponsorship or naming property opportunities (e.g. the _____ Center for Sports Entrepreneurship)
- Would make the college (and its CURRENT programs) appealing to a demographic that is wildly excited about “sports” and “working in sports” –young males (although this industry, has finally evolved to where females exist and thrive)
- Would aid in the current marketing and SEO for the college
- Explore “competition” opportunities (best new sports technology, etc.)
- Polling or expertise that lends itself to media such as inquiries on the latest sports industry issues (every day would provide a new “sports” crisis or debate!)
- Bring additional internship and job opportunities for students and graduates
- Bring cache to the college, reinvigorate faculty, staff and alumni and increase contributions on several levels
- THE “SPORTS” DEGREE Almost every college now has some form of sports management offering. Ten years ago, there were 2-300 nationally that currently offered a “Sports Management/ Studies” (variations) degree (source: National Association of Sports Management).
- This is not all good however! There must be a supplement and connection to the industry!
- Sports programs are becoming oversaturated and stale
- Sports industry is ambivalent to them (for the most part)
- Graduates are not getting employment as the “GM of their favorite team” because they do not understand the industry and their education is not helping! Despite the massive growth in sports education, sport management programs have struggled to produce better-qualified and more marketable candidates. Through our experiences in education and sports, we are creating a platform that is unique and will create a pathway to the industry.

- The goal of the institute is to assist in creating value added, revenue producing events and external products that will help the existing formats at the university.
